RE: Air Dryer Filters Replacement

how does one change filter on coaches with AIR only leveling?
i would think, when air is purged from the lines, the coach would
be sitting low and difficult to get under to access the filters,
assuming they are located under there somewhere.

Racor 12963 fuel filter kit

Does anyone has this kit?
I need to know, for the metal bowl under the S3230P filter,
what type of connection is available to drain water when
the water-in-fuel sensor lights up.
I don't want to drain water/diesel on the road so i would like
to catch that in a container and dispose off properly at a later
time.
Also sometimes that connection may leak (when not seating right)
and i like to carry a spare, thus need to know the type of connection
it will take.

RE: TOAD Tail light diodes keeps burning out

NO, you just need the correct rated AMP Diode assbly. The reason the diodes burn out is simple. You are running MORE amp draw than they are rated at. The Roadmasters I use are a high amp Diode. Radio Shack 1 or 3 amp are NOT the correct amp diode for tailight systems. Doug
If you see my diagram above, i am using 6 AMP diodes on TAIL lights.
The reason they are burning out is due to a ground fault.

Thanks enblethen...
Does this mean, i add more diodes to the diagram above?
If so where? Any suggestions?

RE: TOAD Tail light diodes keeps burning out

Here is my wiring...all done using Radioshack rectifier diodes
Jeep(LT signal)..diode (3A)..
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> .. LT Lights on Jeep
MH (LT signal)..diode (3A)..
Jeep (RT signal).. diode (3A)....
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> .. RT Lights on Jeep
MH(RT signal)..diode (3A)....
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.... left tail Lights Jeep
Jeep (tail lights)... diode (6A)....
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ..junction...
MH (tail lights).... diode (6A)....
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.... right tail Lights Jeep
Were the installation done using over-the-counter Radio Shack do-it-yourself diodes? If so, are they 3-Amp rated, rather than the smaller 1-Amp?
... I do everything myself. I used 6AMP @ 250V rated rectifier Diodes from Radioshack.
Did the lights & diodes ever work right?
.. Yes it works in a new install (when not overheating) but eventually burns out and crumbles like charcoal
Check the tail lights when the toad is NOT connected to the coach -- are they equal brightness?
..Yes, the tail lights in the toad work fine by themselves
Does the tail light intensity seem "normal" -- less than the brake lights, but not TOO dim...?
...Yes
Do the diodes ever fail when the toad is not connected to the coach?
... No
Are the diodes failing on both sides, or always on the same side?
..The tail light wire from the jeep feeds both tail lights via a junction
tied through a wire nut. So none of the tail lights are working when connected to MH as the diode in line is burning out.
If just one side, then I would start looking for a short in the wiring on that side, downstream from the diode, or a short in the lamp socket itself.
... It is both sides
Also, try swapping the bulbs between the two sides. Does the problem move?
... Haven't tried that but i doubt that is the case.
Bottom line, the TAIL light wire from the MH is causing the problem.
I am not sure if this is a problem on the MH side wiring. How do i test that? I agree that this is shorting out because of a ground to hot connection. I didn't find any info on roadmaster website for wiring. Can you point me to the specific direct ground issue please?

TOAD Tail light diodes keeps burning out

The turn signals and brake diodes are fine and work.
However the tail light diodes keeps burning out.
Also when the tail lights are turned on the MH
(and hence the toad), the voltage drops and lights dim.
Is this a short? Any ideas? What can i do to stop burning out
the diodes?

RE: Winterizing--blowing the lines out

Aqua hot winterizing:-
First i blow off whatever water i can using compressed air
Then i shut off all valves (hot and cold) in the manabolic system
so that no pink stuff can go into water lines upstairs
Next the water pump draws pink stuff and runs into aqua hot.
The idea is to open the low point drain for hot water and collect the pink
stuff back. Initially i see plain water coming (despite of blowing
compressed air through it) which i don't collect. As soon as pink
appears i start collecting. It takes 2 gallons in my case.
Refrigerator Icemaker:-
Blow off the lines first. Then i connect 120VAC to the solenoid valve to open it while compressed air is blowing and icemaker is on. I can see water coming out of the icemaker. I just took a 15A plug and two spade connectors connected
via a 16 gauge wire. This way i don't have to turn on the icemaker.
Washer Dryer:-
Blow compressed air through the lines and turn on warm/cold setting.
Pour antifreeze into the washer and let it go through one rinse cycle
to drain. Has worked for several new england winters.
Insta Hot:-
Make sure you drain the insta hot and then blow compressed air through it.
Macerator pump:-
I push some antifreeze through it, although not necessary. Keeps it from
drying out.
Rest of the coach:-
Just compressed air.

RE: Cummins ISBXT 350 hp

Since GCWR is 42k, the GVWR is probably 5k or 10k less
So you are pulling either a 37k or a 32k GVWR vehicle on this engine
At 100lbs per 1HP, the 350HP looks fine to me, so you will be
fine on zero grade highway.
The problem is 750 ft-lbs of torque. When pulling grades, you are
going to be sorry. You should look for a big block w/950+ torque
May be Banks will have a power upgrade system...

Long Island Routes to Avoid?

I plan on going to Nickerson Beach Campground in Long Island
I have a 43' MH and am concerned about
a> Low clearance
b> Nightmare traffic
Plan on traveling on either weekend (sunday) or weekday (monday)
Garmin says, take I-95S, I-695S, I-295S, Cross Island Pkwy, Southern State Pkwy, Meadowbrook Pkwy to destination.
Trucking map says, I-95S, I-698S, Rt 878 E to destination.
Which is the best way? Alternate ways to the above?

RE: Great Detail Job On MH For $125.00!

I am not sure why it took 10 hrs... maybe he was sleeping on the job :)
I do this every year at the end of the season with my wife helping and under
her direction :)
We soap-wash it and then soft-water wash it and then towel-dry.
We also clean the roof with mild soap and water. Also any hard to remove
spots, i scrub it myself. Next we hand wax the coach it and then polish it.
We are done in 3hrs or so. Next i cover it for the winter. I have a 43' coach
and i do this in fall of new england (temps in 40s).
I guess i have to ask the DW to pay me some allowance. $125 is not bad :)

RE: Tag Axle and tire pressure math

I am just going by what the sticker inside says:
13k/steer,23k/drive,10k/tag GAWRs and 46k/56k GVWR/GCWR
This is a 2001 executive.
Water tank (100 ga) is in front of drive axle.
Fuel (150 ga)+propane(43 usable ga) is behind steer axle and 10k onan genny in front.
Ideally, i would like to see the steer have a 1000lbs margin
So instead of 13.2k it will weigh 12.2k
I would like the tag axle or drive axle to pick up that 1000 lbs
The tag has so much more room left to take over.
Is there a calibration of how much weight can be shifted for
each psi eduction on the tag air bags. It is currently set at 29psi
Like TennStud says, if i go down to say 24psi, what can i expect the
steer axle to loose approximately.

Tag Axle and tire pressure math

Here is what i measured today:
Steer Axle (single)= 13200 lbs (GAWR = 13k) overloaded by 20 lbs
Load Axle(dually)= 19600 lbs (GAWR = 23k) room = 3400 lbs
Tag Axle (single) = 5740 lbs (GAWR = 10k) room = 4260 lbs
Total = 38540 lbs (GVWR = 46k, GCWR = 56k)
Tires are GY 670 295/80/22.5 on all 8 of them
I would like to reduce load on steer axle and transfer
them to tag axle mostly and maybe some on drive axle.
This is specially important when the tag axle lifts up
for sharp turns (forward/reverse) and then all of that load
on the tag axle now gets to the remaining two axles. The
drive axle has room for that but the steer axle is already
overloaded by 20lbs and now it will be by a lot more, say
5740/2 = 2870 lbs (assuming equal distribution for discussions
sake)
I don't really have much of my personal stuff to move
around so i need to play with the air bag pressure on
the tag axle. It is at 29 psi at present.
Any suggestions?

RE: Jeep Liberty odometer mileage

Sorry, i made a mistake, it is a Cherokee not a liberty
But they work the same, i suppose.
According to instruction manual i leave the keys in ON position to unlock the steering. This is one click short of START.
Could the steering be unlocked in the first click?

Jeep Liberty odometer mileage

This is a 2003 Jeep Cherokee with Select-Trac 4WD. While towing four down, the odometer acquires mileage. Is there anyway to prevent that from happening? After all the engine is not working. My earlier toads didn't do it.

RE: Equivalent Length - Class A versus 5th Wheel

I don't think you can discard the drivers area as not livable. It is actually a prime real estate w/nice open views that a trailer of fifth wheel doesn't have.
I had fifth wheels before so i speak from experience. In a diesel pusher, such as made by Monaco, the driver's area is where the entry door is and you use it all the time - so it is a living area.
Although you had asked about length, there is a distinct advantage that fifth wheel has over Class A ie. the ceiling height in the living quarters. This makes one feel living in a larger area.
My point is, one needs to consider the total living space (as you feel it) and just not the length. Compare a 40' classA with a 40' FW and the class A will feel smaller in space.
Being at 27', you may like 35' or beyond class A
